Tours

Guided tours are also available outside opening hours. Please contact us for an appointment.

We offer tours through the permanent exhibition, “Up there in Görden. Brandenburg Prison during National Socialism (1933–1945) and in the GDR (1949–1990)”.

Exhibits focus on themes such as the reformed prison system in the Weimar Republic, the systematic persecution of political and “racial” opponents under the Nazis, or the political dimensions of prosecution and the prison system under Soviet occupation and in the GDR.

A tour through the permanent exhibition lasts about 60 minutes.

Extended Guided Tour

It is also possible to visit the memorial site at the former execution chamber operated by the Nazi justice system.

The memorial site, which was established in 1949, is located within the present-day prison. There is a small exhibition there about the history of the execution site and the memorial site. The biographies of twelve execution victims stand for a total of 2,032 people who were killed here.

Because the memorial site is located inside a secured area within the prison, a list of visitors must be registered at least two weeks in advance.

A tour through the permanent exhibition and a visit to the memorial site lasts about 120 minutes.
